Bell Bazaar traces its roots to Ajanta Enterprises, our family business founded in Berkeley, California, in 1970. We began selling online in 2001. Over the years, customers have known us through AjantaEnterprises.com, BrassBell.net, IndianBedspreads.net, and BellsOnline.net.

My mother started as a wholesale importer with a designer clothing label, supplying department stores including Macy's, JCPenney, and Neiman Marcus. Our University Avenue location in Berkeley began as an apparel warehouse, where I played boats in empty shipping boxes and helped sort clothing onto shelves by size: small, medium, and large.

When import quotas delayed shipments, she shifted toward retail for a better work-life balance. Mostly apparel at first, the store evolved into a little of everything: home goods, books, statues, and a rack of bells. She called it "karmic." Near the UC Berkeley campus, it welcomed visitors from all corners of the planet. She worked in her real estate office next door and would occasionally stop in, giving small brass bells to children visiting with their families.

In March 2022, we brought our growing bell business together under BellBazaar.com, a more focused home for the products we have specialized in for decades. From the early days of ecommerce to millions of bells later, we are still here, sourcing distinctive products, serving customers directly, and continuing a family business built over generations.
